This week on the farm

Hello! Just popping by to remind you that Vicky and her Mum will be at Oakwood Farmers Market tomorrow morning. They will be taking lots of our lovely veggies as well as a great range of plants. Perfect for adding a bit of colour to your garden. And of course they will also have plenty of our luscious forced rhubarb for sale too. The farm shop and the nursery will of course be open too all weekend.

If you follow us on Instagram you can keep up with all our spring sowing, planting and harvesting. We've been very busy getting tomatoes and chillies potted up this week all ready for the coming summer months. There are lots of good things to come! (All of these images have been taken from our recent Instagram updates - find us @whiteleysfarm).

Have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Don't forget Mum!

It's a very quick post tonight, but we just wanted to remind you all that it's Mothers' Day on Sunday. So instead of grabbing a bunch of flowers or a box of chocolates from the supermarket, why don't you treat Mum to a nice plant that will keep on flowering for months (and some that will keep on going for years) rather than just a few days. This is just a small collection form our nursery but we lots more in stock. So do pop in and visit us this weekend. Vicky will also be taking a wide selection to Headingley Farmers Market on Saturday morning.

Or if your Mum prefers an edible gift then we have that covered too! Granny's homemade jams are perfect for teatime treats. Try 'Heaven in a Jar', 'Rhubarb and Date', 'Blueberry' or some of our highly sought after 'Lemon Curd'. We also have bottles of the delicious Wildon Grange balsamic vinegars and new in the farm shop from the Seasonal Larder, we have luscious homemade cordials - plum and rhubarb (made from our very own forced rhubarb). And we have a new batch of our Vicky's 'The Bird and the Bees' honey too.

And to really show Mum that you appreciate her - why don't you make a crumble with our rhubarb? It's great with pear and ginger too!

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend with your Mum.

Spring is most definitely in the air down on the farm. We have had lovely warm sunny days and we've been preparing the fields and sowing seeds ready for planting.  The bees are enjoying the milder weather too and have been hard at work foraging on the springtime blooms. The hive is a busy place.

We have lots of vegetable seeds on the go in all the tunnels and we have vegetable plant plugs made up in packs for customers who wish to grow their own.  We currently have round cabbages, cauliflowers, spring cabbage, purple sprouting broccoli and chard in packs. They should be ready for sale in the next couple of weeks (but do give us a call if you want to check they are ready before visiting the nursery).  In the shop we have a wide range of seed potatoes and packs of vegetable seeds if you are keen to get started.

Plant wise we have some crackers to brighten up your spring garden. Beautiful dwarf rhodedendrons are ready to burst into bloom and stunning hellebores are in flower and will look wonderful gracing a garden border.  (top image and bottom image).

For baskets and containers we have some beautiful pansies, violas, cyclamen and primulas. (image 3 and 5). And did you know that you can eat violas? They make fabulous decorations for wedding cakes. Check out how to make candied violas here.

Or if you are on the hunt for some rockery plants, then why not come check out our new range of rare alpine plants. (image 4 and 7). These are just two of our lovely saxifrages but we have lots more!

Vicky will be back at Horsforth Farmers Market tomorrow with a wide range of plants and lots of our freshly harvested vegetables and forced rhubarb. And of course the nursery and farm shop are open all weekend. Saturday 930am - 4pm. Sunday 10am - 3pm. We look forward to seeing you soon.
